China is set to significantly expand its purchases of American aircraft after former US President Donald Trump announced that Beijing plans to buy 200 jets from Boeing. Trump further suggested that the total order could eventually rise to as many as 750 aircraft, potentially marking one of the largest aviation deals in recent years.

The aircraft are expected to be powered by engines supplied by GE Aerospace, highlighting the broader involvement of the US aerospace industry in the proposed agreement. However, details regarding the specific aircraft models, delivery schedule, pricing, and final structure of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
The announcement comes amid efforts to stabilize economic ties between the United States and China after years of trade tensions and technology disputes that heavily impacted the aviation sector. Historically, Chinese airlines were among Boeing’s largest customers, placing orders for 589 aircraft between 2005 and 2009, followed by 612 orders from 2010 to 2014. Orders later declined to 344 between 2015 and 2017 before collapsing sharply to just 51 aircraft from 2018 to 2025 as geopolitical tensions intensified.
Responding to the development, Boeing said it now looked forward to “continuously addressing China’s aircraft demand,” signaling optimism for a potential recovery in one of the world’s most important aviation markets.
